Literally blew in through the town on hurricane winds (climate change is so fun) in the middle of the night and just started lighting homes on fire before a lot of people even woke up. Lahaina was right up against the ocean with little sea walls and such, but most of the town is pretty far from the water if you're on foot running through smoke and fire.

So far 96 dead in a tiny town.

I've heard that the fires started from power lines that HELCO, the worst American power company perhaps outside of Texas, decided not to shut off despite the warned-about high winds and drought.

There are probably hundreds of more dead. Just unbelievable to me. Those poor people had no warning at all.

Even Texas has the basic ass capacity to warn about incoming fires.
