I think he'd somewhere in the bottom right, on account of just locking on to the first person he suspected to be the killer and beating a confession out of them before clocking off for a pint in the railroad arms.

Is there a Gene Hunt in the US version?
Haven't seen it but the Wiki says yes.
And also that he turns out to be Sam's dad in the plot twist at the end.
