The only "100% sure" way was to literally kill them and dig out bits of their brain (which apparently do not look different from human parts) and send it to some lab for "testing." Exactly what is and isn't an android is very ambiguous. I like 60% think that everyone featured in the book is an android and that life on Earth is completely extinct.
