Ukraine received "230 Leopard 1 and 2 tanks, 38 of which came from Germany". The tank failed to live up to expectations during Ukraine's failed offensive, with at least 20 destroyed, of which 7 being destroyed at Robotine alone.

Tankers highlight how drones create fear and psychological problems amongst crews, and note flaws in the tanks design with dangerous gaps in the armour being present especially between the turret and the hull.

Repairs are difficult due to a lack of parts and bureaucracy. It can take 6 months to get parts, leading to tanks being stripped for parts. Serious repairs must be done in Lithuania which can take months. Work was originally to be done in Poland but inflated repair bills forced Germany to turn to Lithuania.
