Cw: fish

Show

On the 2nd of march 1964, a group of indigenous rights activists, among them actor Marlon Brando and Puyallup tribal leader Bob Satiacum, illegally fished in the Puyallup River to protest the denial of treaty rights to Native Americans. This form of civil disobedience is known as a "fish-in", and in this specific incident both Brando and an Episcopal clergyman were arrested.

The fish-in was staged by the National Indian Youth Council, a Native American civil rights organization formed in Gallup, New Mexico in 1961. It became part of the so-called "Fish Wars", a set of protests spanning decades in which Native American tribes around the Puget Sound pressured the U.S. government to recognize fishing rights granted by the Point No Point Treaty.

The protests eventually won indigenous people in the area the right to fish without state permits - in the 1974 case "United States v. Washington", U.S. District Court Judge George Hugo Boldt stated that treaty right fishermen must be allowed to take up to 50% of all potential fishing harvests and required that they have an equal voice in the management of the fishery.

The so-called "Boldt Decision" was reaffirmed by the Supreme Court in 1979 and has been used as a precedent for handling other, similar treaties.

Nah im gonna work on this dude. He's not my boss. Man i love being a cook because i'm really only accountable to the sous chef (who is a comrade, although seemingly anti 'authoritarian') and the executive chef. Technically the dining director too probably but any labor issue in the back of the kitchen seems to get referred to the chef, so. Yea. It's awesome.

Anyway he said some shit about North Korea building ghost cities when i was trying to mention the articles about China doing the same as an example of a canard which has since been disproven. I think he's talking about the idea of a potemkin village so I'm going to explain to him exactly how fucked North Korea was post war and ask why it makes sense that they'd have the resources to build fake shit just to trick the west into thinking things don't suck as bad

Yeah fr, why would north korea make fake buildings for people whom theyre insanely afraid/cautious of

Like if you imagine your own countries history, put urself in a north koreans shoes where someone in your family definitely died in the korean war and the fallout of it. Not to mention the years of colonialism beforehand or being afraid of other bigger aes countries using you. If you take getting away from that shit seriously and being your own thing in a really crazy world, it makes more sense
