I think (at least partly) it's also cuz he's probably the biggest he's ever been in Hollywood rn with stuff like the Mario movie and doesn't wanna risk it.
I'll probably always like Black, he's made too much good stuff. But if Tenacious D truly dies over this, this is the biggest L of his entire career.
