After the war ended, people started returning home or were straight-up deported. Postwar El Salvador saw a drastic increase in violent crime and homicide than what they had before. The reason? All those people were treated like shit, MS-13 grew to fill the void left by the government, then MS-13 members were sent to El Salvador where they found everything ripe for the taking.
Had refugees been properly looked after and not forced to become drug mules for American gangs, things could have gone back to normal. Instead, they were brutalized by cops, forced into the "justice" system, then thrown away like trash. It's the same story of every gang here. El Salvador is just a good example because you don't have to rely on cops to find the data.
