In my opinion, Shenzhen transportation system may as well be the most underrated out of the "big" systems around the world. Overshadowed by Tokyo and others. Which is very unjust as I think it has a world class incredible system for a such a rapidly expanding city.
Special economic zone, is a special economic zone. Shenzhen was and still is a hub for foreigners from both the imperial core and outside to deal with tech business relating to China. Just talking about huaqiangbei gets my skin crawling, one of the biggest markets for electronics, both cheap and expensive ones.

The speed the rail system in Shenzhen has been developed is really the most impressive aspect in my opinion.
