Are the C and the K interchangeable? Why does the "of" in Republic of Corea get in thr acronym while "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" ditches the "of" in the acronym?

In Arabic too, most vowel sounds are determined by object/subject position and case. So all words are written as 'acronyms' and the vowels are contextually relevant. Consequently, any block of letters can be read as a word because that is the default for the language.
