The mystery and reveal of the seafort/deserter in Disco Elysium is incredibly undercut if you pass the Visual Calculus check on the rooftop that tells you the shooter was either on the boardwalk, on the island, or at the church. You can't go look around any of those areas to look for clues, and you can't go to the island no matter what.
