    To be fair, it's not like Lucas had extensively mapped out an entire trilogy when he made the first movie either. He, Kasdan and all those other people were just mostly flying by the seat of their pants from movie to movie

    And it really shows in ROTJ

        It just kind of lazily wraps everything up to get it over with. Anyway, my point was that these big franchise movies aren't generally planned that tightly unless they're Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings which were all made at the same time

        I do agree that Rise of Skywalker was a laughably bad movie though- I wonder how much it was just due to JJ's incompetence and how much of it was some ill-advised course correction due to fanboys collectively shitting their pants about TLJ
