The world building was cool, but god damn any time the writer used it, it was either bad or bad and also creepy.
An adaptation that only uses the setting could be great.
The series fucking starts with a girl who looks about eight years old being stripped naked and hung by the feet on public display as a punishment. It's weird and gross as shit. I stopped watching it at about the fifteen second mark but every fucking time I went in to the living room while my roommate was watching it there was either a naked kid or just obscene levels of gore on the screen. This isn't like a mostly good anime that has one weird and tonally inconsistent creepy beach episode or something like that, it's child porn all the way down.

One of my all time favorites is Nichijou but as a 30 year old dude that is really hard to bring up because the main characters are girls in high school and an 8 year old genius. This is a really sad comment, you are giving way, way too much value to the group think around these parts and presumptuous "leftists" in general. It is specially egregious since all of Kyoto stuff is as vanilla and sanitized as you could possibly get and it says more about them when they look at a ridiculous gag comedy anime and immediately assume sexual interest. Like you could watch 30s of any Nichijou episode and immediately understand this.

There was a recent struggle session about anime already and if you are letting random people who literally are judging an entire media based on how a character looks then you will be the one losing out, they are hypocrites at the very least they will turn their back and go back to enjoy their own favorite flavor of imperialist dogshit media. This is unproductive and divisive. The only way forward on this slippery slope is to live inside a well, "yet your participate in society" meme vibe more fitting for libs then actual leftists.
