That actually sounds like a mechanically good expansion. I was worried by the name, given that Tynan is (at least the last I heard) a gamergator twit with completely fucked views on women and sexuality, but it's nothing to do with actual ideology and everything to do with "wot if ur cannibals could make more cannibals?!?" which is pretty good.

    Still pirating it, though.

If the Steam edition finally dropped, I'm going to immediately throw away Rimworld and play DF forever.

Seriously, Rimworld honestly sucks. Simplistic production chain, whack progression, lifeless pawns, no automation, and any new feature thrown behind a paywall at a steep price, all on top of the dev being a piece of shit. The reason it have gotten so big is that the game is so technically simple that anyone can mods it, and that we're starved of a close Dwarf Fortress-like game that is actually playable by human beings.

When we finally have DF with non-deranged UI, then why settle for less?

like actually playing df has made me like rimworld less than i did before so i am really excited for DF on steam, but i really wish steam would eventually fix the mess that their workshop is i will probably go insane if i have to deal with that on df too

Is it bad? Tynan is one of those guys who is in a prime position to exist in that techbro libertarian space and I know lots of people were :cringe: about "royalty". I do love me some vanilla Rimworld though

i think the problem with royalty is that it costs a lot to add someone modders could easily add for free. if it was way cheaper or free it'd be a nice little bit of extra content. ideology will probably be the same: neat mechanics and content that a modder could add for free, if stuff like this doesn't already exist

Makes sense. Back when I was in deep, there were some pretty remarkable mods shared with the community. One that stood out -- A guy actually created one that would take a snapshot of your base when you got wiped out, and put it into a pool for other users of the mod, and it created rubble and ruins from real bases that would show up in other people's games. Outstanding.

I just want to build a decent sized town with some automation and not have to rely on killboxes or choke points. The mod list/community looks really intimidating

idk seems pretty reasonable to me that in a complete breakdown of industrial society people would return to preindustrial forms of government

it is kinda wild that rimworld dlc is a regular thing now but i do like extra content as the more content there is more mods and more content etc etc etc

Sounds like a lot of much-needed QoL improvements, plus the animal husbandry stuff looks like it will make that less plain. Breach raids sound fun, too. I never liked the tower defense style of killboxes.

I'll have to wait and see if the ideology stuff actually changes gameplay Mich, but it could be cool.

the thing with kill boxes is that mid to late game it's just impossible to beat the mass human wave attacks without some kind of choke point to funnel them. like when you get 74 manhunting Elephants you can't beat that with just sand bags. I do dislike using kill boxes but I can never get into late game without one or I die to a raid overwhelming the front lines immediately

It's kind of a feedback loop, I think. Like people figured out killboxes to make raids easier, so the raids were buffed, so the killboxes got better, so the raids were buffed and defenses were nerfed, and so on until good killboxes became 100% necessary because you couldn't realistically set up solid perimeter defenses that could endure big raids.
