    So basically, it's Doomer Pascal's Wager.

    If the doomer prediction doesn't happen, it's a pleasant surprise. If it does happen, well, I told you so.

    If the optimist's prediction happens, it's just as they expected. If it doesn't happen, it just feels like more hellworld.
