I unironically want more game designers/directors/creators to just do weirdo shit like this. I think it's better to be corny than to be bland , with the caveat that you're making is decent. I think it's better to be cringe/weird/corny/whatever than slop. When you're unafraid to be you're self and true to your style (even if it's weird or over-the-top or whatever) you're making something cool. Being yourself in your art transforms corny to cool, cringe to base, wack to tight as hell. I'd say that applies to all any any artform.
All that said I actually like the make-up on Higgs. It reminds me of the "The Crow", I would assume a movie-head like Kojima did intentionally.
What made me say "goddamnit Kojima" was when the rock and roll joker crow had a fight with the delivery robot samurai and played his guitar as a railgun.
