Do you really expect someone to shoplift 20 pounds of groceries? Ofc people in need are going to flip a pricy item and buy necessities.
I also have no problem with poor people having nice things, especially shoplifted.
Once you’re sufficiently wealthy, you’ll have never had the experience of selling your nice things for money. They associate selling expensive amenities with addiction. So anyone stealing an expensive item is stealing it to keep. And consumer electronics are ways that pricks signal their wealth, so poors having that stuff without “earning” it pisses them off.
And fuck it, if you can manage to shoplift a new iPhone and wanna keep it for yourself, show your bougie ass off. This is doubly true when the expensive thing is something that will last longer than replacing the cheap version of that thing over and over
Would you just wear the boots out of the store and stick your shitters in the box? I usually just take things I can stick in a pocket or possibly conceal under a jacket/hoody.
People do that all the time. Just leave your trashed shoes on the rack and walk out with the better ones.
remember: if you see someone stealing from a store, no you didn’t
I am also offened that it defacto assumes things are worth their price. A 90 dollar shirt is not worth that. If you are gonna charge someone for petty theft it should be off the wholesale price of like 8.50 or whatever it is
"Your honor, your valuation is way off, I didn't pay shit for it."
Had a super lib on reddit tell me a while back I was an immoral piece of shit for saying that stealing was fine as long as you don't get caught. Can only imagine they must have had a pretty easy life.
Stealing is not fine or not dependent on whether you get caught. No action becomes wrong through observation.
Getting caught is dependent on whether someone gets arrested and has something put on their criminal record, which is usually a red flag for most jobs. I'm not concerned about the morality of stealing when the ruling class does it at a much grander scale.
Ah, I thought you meant morally okay. The morality of stealing from a large store.is that it's fine as long as the overworked employees don't end up on the hook for it.
Stealing to survive doesn't necessarily mean stealing survival necessities
Theres these things called markets
Here’s my 3 rules about stealing:
-
Stealing from large corporations is cool and good, and people should do it even if they don’t need to.
-
Stealing from the government is good, since that money would probably go to fund wars or something else terrible anyways.
-
Stealing from genuinely terrible people is good, cuz fuck 'em.
Stealing from the military or police is cool. Stealing from the government broadly isn't going to get the military budget reduced and basically all the theft from government is done by capitalists. If you can get some extra money from social security though go for it.
very true. i had to employ rule 3 a LOT when i was getting robbed like every other day back when i was living in my dealers living room.

Anyone who complains about shoplifting at all is a piece of shit not worth "debating."
Back when I worked retail we had an elderly homeless couple that would steal a crap ton of batteries. They were small, easy to take out of packaging in the bathroom, and apparently resold for a decent price since they're useful for a number of things.
They eventually got caught because they kept going to the same store every day. Not like they had a car they could take to different locations.
