Hey everyone!
I'm trying to launch Lemmyvision, a Eurovision-like Song Contest for Lemmy communities around the world ! I'd love for people across Lemmy to participate, I hope it will bring people together through our diverse taste of music, so join us if you'd like to discover new music and culture from around the world!
What is Lemmyvision?
- Lemmyvision is inspired from Eureddision (itself a reenactment of the Eurovision song contest) which was held on r/europe some years ago, and based on the participation of national communities / instances and the delicate musical taste of their members (you!).
- Every country is welcome to participate! The contest follows the rule of “national languages only”. The aim is to promote different languages and cultures from around the world, to share more between our online communities across Lemmy, and discover songs from lesser known artists. I hope to make it a regular event, so hopefully this works well for the first edition!
I'm going to try and share the word across Lemmy, don't hesitate if you want to crosspost to your country's community!
You can find more information on !lemmyvision@jlai.lu, don't hesitate if you have questions or suggestions, or would like to help!
See you soon! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍
The Northern Boys - "Sexy Train"
Another upbeat party anthem, the top comment even asks them to represent us on Eurovision, which they should. Until the cowardly committee deciding these things finally gets some nerve, this will have to do.
OK, I'm game.
The criteria:
Song submission
- Each Lemmy community is responsible for their own organization.
- Only one (1) song is to be sent to represent your country.
- Songs must be in (one of) the official language(s) of your country, or a regional language in your country.
- Songs must have been released within the last year (after January 1st, 2023).
- Songs must not be international hits (I'll update on how this is evaluated).
- Verification will probably require a link to the discussion thread created within your community, to ensure it's a community (not a single person's) decision.
So post a suggestion, if it has already been posted reply to that so we just have one top level reply for each song. If people like the suggestion upvote it, the highest number of upvotes gets submitted as long as it meets the cryptic criteria: "Songs must not be international hits".
When it comes to "international hits" I'll be pretty lenient, it's mostly because at some point during Eureddision, the german community submitted Deutschland from Rammstein which had millions of view on youtube, so of course it won, to the distate of other participants, I'd like to avoid this kind of controversies, so you can submit popular songs, just not too popular (not the latest hit from Ed Sheeran, or Adele, or whatever😛)
Thanks for clarifying.
not the latest hit from Ed Sheeran, or Adele, or whatever😛
Luckily, I'd never nominate them and I doubt the folks here would upvote them
Thanks for sharing ! By the way, I don't know if Scottish, Northern Irish, and Welsh folks would like to participate on their own, but I can make room for that ! Up to you guys to decide together. Cheers ! 🍺
I admit I'm a little disappointed we don't actually have to write and record songs.
Yes. 365 Days to write a song, yet I know I'm going to leave it to the last 2 hours.
"Sexy Train" by The Northern Boys has been submitted here.
Voting starts in the 8th and someone will crosspost it here then.
Pete & Bas - "Top of the World"
Upbeat party tunes always does well and it has some of that European language in it and the video may have been filmed in Europe (or Brighton).
I suspect most of the country regards Brighton as effectively being in Europe
not sure if this counts as an "international hit" since jessie ware is pretty popular already, but
this song is just eurovision ready in every way (actually a lot of the songs on her album would be good eurovision songs)
Kwengface gonna rep the UK for us?
Given how Europe usually sees us during the holiday season, can I recommend...
I don't think it meets the eligibility criteria as it wasn't released in the last year.
