literally denied that people might have medical conditions on so many occasions (hysteria, trans exclusion, autism, it's kind of an endless list) that we automatically assume the human condition is limited to that which is experienced by a vanishingly small minority. we regularly claim to know with objective certainty the minds of others.
the only reasonable approach is to take:

We don't have to take it at face value, but we do have to keep an eye out for complex emergent behavior that starts to look like self-awareness, theory of mind, agency, or other markers that we would consider to be markers of "Humanness".
