“Now, the next seminal shift in the history of the X-Men is on the horizon, but first, Marvel Comics proudly presents the final act of the Krakoan Age this June in X-MEN #35! X-MEN #35 will be the milestone 700th issue of UNCANNY X-MEN and will feature an epic-length story by acclaimed writers and artists who shaped the Krakoan Age, including Gerry Duggan, Kieron Gillen, Al Ewing, Lucas Werneck, Joshua Cassara, and more.

You seem knowledgeable. How do I get into X-Men comics?

I know there are 700 issues of this title (Uncanny X-Men) - do I just read this start to finish? I'm thinking no, comics aren't manga. But I haven't read many comics before, especially not ones that span multiple different series (just looking up X-Men comics on Wikipedia [1 2 3] gives me a headache).

I know there is this main series, then bunch of spin offs, and popular characters probably have their own series etc. that all coincide in some super-event that resets things...

I just wanna read some good comics, man.

X-men is normally divided into eras to differentiate the different status quos between comics runs. you can start from one to start since they are made to be jumping on points for new readers

      • The Silver Age: X-Men #1-66 (1963). The original run started by Uncle Stan Lee and Jack The King Kirby. its ehh, but it introduces many characters

      • The Claremont Years: Giant Size X-Men #1 and X-Men #94-281. this is the most influencial era of X-men claremont pretty much made the x-men what they are now, most of the first animated x-men show are adaptations of the stories from this run

      • The Extinction Era: Grant Morrison's New X-Men #114-154/Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men #1-24+Giant-Size #1. its from the 2000's Morrison's reinvents the idea of the X-men for modern times adding things like mutant culture and their identity as oppressed people, Joss Whedon then makes the X-men a bit more traditional superhero stuff from morrison's story

      • The Bendis Era: All-New X-Men/Uncanny X-Men (2012). after a crossover event and then x-men founding and island nation, there is a shism between the x-men and they divide cyclops becomes more radical, the x-men from the past visit the present day, it a bit of mess really

      • The Hickman Era: Krakoa era. it starts with House of X/Powers of X, so in this one all mutants good and bad joing together to make a mutant island nation again except instead of being an unrecognized city state it becomes a great power with a lot of influence in the globe, its was pretty good in my opinion.

      • The New Era, this one is going to start with this comic uncanny x-men 700 which comes out in june, they are going to bring new writers and it going to be a jump on point.

Also currently Marvel is doing a new Ultimate Marvel line, which is different from the other comics because its about making modern versions of their heroes and its in its own universe, and one of the titles is Ultimate X-men 2024 with came out today and it looks good

this reddit-logo post gives a summary of what happens in each era

I recomend the House of X and Powers of X, it was written by hickman the guy who started the Era, from those 2 you can understand the background of the rest of the krakoan books that arent the sequel of another, also i liked the first hellfire gala stories, S.W.O.R.D into x-men red is a good galactic x-men story, but my favorite book was immortal X-men

I sure hope Simone can keep the momentum going. Krakoa was so interesting and had so much cool stuff that I'd hate to see everything disappear into the black hole of a reset.

    spoiler

Bringing Magneto back from the dead better be worth it after such a short time being gone.
