"This is not how we do things in this country."
Uhh, clearly it is. Did you not see the part where this happened in this country?
“Cleaning” what a gross euphemism for destroying people’s homes of last resort
I wonder if most people on the left realize the true importance of John Brown and preserving his memory. When he was active in Kansas and especially after the failed raid on the armory at Harper's Ferry, the prevailing public sentiment was that he was a bit of a crazy person. Fredrick Douglass even told him as much. It was only after he was captured and interviewed by the press, as well as the accounts of his incarceration and execution to the press by the governor of Virgina, that Brown's public image was rehabilitated.
No matter what we do, people are going to call us crazy extremists until they don't.
Great point.
In prison during his death sentence he was practically holding court with all sorts of people. Newspaper articles came out, he wrote prodigious letters and his appearance in court were legendary defenses of his noble cause.
Most of his closest supporters and newspapers succumbed to the pressure and denounced him as crazy.
But not Thoreau . Who wrote a beautiful defense of him.
When the shit hits the fan too many fall for cowardice.
Wait you're telling me marching around saying things like "Uwu pwease Mistor Opwessor pwease wift your boowt a widdle bit" isn't effective?
What if I did that, but also with a unique hat I came up with for everyone to wear?
Only if the unique hat was a well lubed butthole hat, maybe it'd work.
fucking

fuck you dallas news
the John Brown Gun Club is one of the few orgs that give me hope in american leftistsJohn Brown Gun Club

John Brown Gun Club
I missed the caption for the photo, I didn't realize that was the name of the group. Amazing.
:sicko-yes: :john-brown:
They go to protests and guard them from cops and chuds. Report people who seem to be plain-clothes police, etc. Legit community policing
If 1 guy with a gun can put the entire Uvalde Police Department to a standstill, what can 40 guys with guns do?
Fuck me do we have the absolute best emojis on the entire internet
Journalists are mercenaries whose arms are too weak to lift a gun. Pond scum.
Last week, a group of about 40 activists used their bodies and cars to block city officials from cleaning the site of a homeless encampment under Interstate 45 in South Dallas. Some of them carried rifles.
Then, on Monday, activists showed up again even though there weren’t city officials around. At least one man with a long gun could be seen from the street.
The freedom to criticize our government is one of the most important rights enshrined by our nation’s Constitution, but there is a line between protest and intimidation. Activists who physically interfered with the work of code enforcement officers should be investigated by police.
It’s clearly a scare tactic to bring a long gun to a protest against an encampment cleanup, and activists last week positioned themselves to prevent city workers from reaching the camp. Christine Crossley, the city’s director of homeless solutions, told us that city staff were alarmed by the presence of guns.
City spokeswoman Catherine Cuellar added: “The normalization of this behavior is making the work for city staffers and the city as a whole more dangerous.”
We cannot as a society tolerate people using weapons to frighten city employees who are merely trying to do their jobs. The city of Dallas gave camp residents advance notice that they would show up to clean the site, which is critical and time-consuming work necessary to make the camps safer and more sanitary for the people who live there.
More importantly, the cleanups are part of a broader outreach program by the city, nonprofits and other partners to lift up those stuck in persistent poverty. Since September, 971 people have been placed in homes through the Dallas Real Time Rapid Rehousing Initiative.
In this case, there were no immediate plans by the city to shut down the camp, according to city officials. City Hall’s overarching strategy involves proactively helping the people at the encampments with housing and resources and eventually removing the camps.
The most vulnerable in our city deserve more than a patch of dirt under a bridge. It’s inhumane to allow the encampments to continue indefinitely, and we are glad our city wants to address this problem in a productive way.
It’s intolerable for citizens to respond to policy decisions they don’t like by bringing rifles to a protest, which hints at the possibility of violence, and physically blocking government workers from doing their jobs.
Unfortunately, this kind of intimidation is aided by our state’s misguided open-carry law. Openly carrying long guns at protests and rallies is unnecessarily provocative and compromises public safety.
This is not how we make our voices heard or how we get problems fixed in this country.
I also really like this bit:
Then, on Monday, activists showed up again even though there weren’t city officials around. At least one man with a long gun could be seen from the street.
It subtly says a lot. I guarantee the John Brown Gun Club didn't self report that they were still there protecting the camp. I am am also certain that nobody bothered interviewing the homeless for their perspectives. This means that city officials were in fact around, probably police in plain clothes monitoring the situation.
This really makes you wonder who wrote this opinion piece in the first place. It almost seems like maybe, possibly perhaps, someone from a police department wrote it. Who could say?
I will say however, if anyone from the JBGC is reading this. Watch your back.
Spot on. Also, the language of the article (and certainly in the section you show here) makes it sound scary and ominous that they're armed. This is Texas, where guns are supposed to be a proud part of the culture to the point that people fetishize them.
This is Texas, where guns are supposed to be a proud part of the culture
Isn't it an unspoken part of US gun culture that it was always meant to be practiced exclusively by white reactionaries so they could protect the existing order against non-whites, poors and "radicals" who were never supposed to have guns?
Yes, 100,000% correct. Some of the first modern gun control legislation came from Ronald Reagan and California Republicans, who started to shit their pants once black folks in Oakland (the Black Panther Party in particular) started arming up.
Also the militia mentioned in second amendment is slave patrollers. That's who :amerikkka: wants guns for
Not just used for slave patrols but also genociding native americans. Just literally large scale state sanctioned lynch mobs
yes but comminists and anarchists are NOT part of texas culture, the guns are supposed to go with our lord and savior, supply side jesus, and his divine father, ludwig von misis.

Death to America
It doesn't really matter which member of the fascist regime wrote it, anyway there is no chance it was a journalist since these are extinct.

This is some real sicko shit.
Yeah I really hate the rhetoric that the activist s were preventing progress for these homeless people. It's not like they would be there with rifles to prevent you from talking to homeless people and telling them about a housing first project that would ensure they all received apartments.
I mean I hate to :19::84: but damn, "You're harming these people egregiously by making sure their homes and possessions aren't destroyed. Our project to take all their possessions from them is actually in their best interests" is pretty nuts
No, I'm with you. I fully expect them to formalize a process of enslaving homeless people any day now. I mean they already are, with those "Felony camping" laws.
Just the other day, Trump was literally talking about setting up concentration camps (though he called them "tent cities") outside major cities for homeless people.
Why are you mad at me? I'm throwing away all your possessions that you need to survive in order to help you!
:gold-ancom:
I thought being armed was a virtue in Texas? Guess not if you're a leftist
I'm like 1000% certain when they say "government workers" they mean police goons who were sent there to kick over bicycles and throw tents into dumpsters.
"We were here to help them, we were totally giving away free food and houses but THE LEFT decided the homeless can't have nice things" is how this is meant to read. It's the highest form of bullshit.
there is a line between protest and intimidation
The line send to be who died the protesting. When the fash shows up in tacticool gear armed with assault rifles, liberals are all polite about it but when someone on the left brings a single gun they clutch their pearls.
director of homeless solutions
Nazi-ass sounding job title if there ever was one. They're working their way to a final solution.
merely trying to do their jobs
And exactly what is their jobs here? Harassing and brutalising internally displaced persons who did nothing but trying to survive under inhuman conditions. This concern trolling about how the goons are "just doing their jobs" is literally the Nuremberg defence.
The most vulnerable in our city deserve more than a patch of dirt under a bridge.
If these ghouls cared about the internally displaced persons in the refugee camp they would house them, not rob them of their last worldly possessions.

If you are a municipal worker and have to start using the Nuremberg defense maybe it's time to reassess
"That's unacceptable" No it isn't, you're just a fucking wussy loser. Shut the fuck up. This is literally the coolest and most inspiring fucking shit I've seen all month, literal bloomer-optimism shit.
"This is not how we do things in this country" B*tch, that we haven't made a habit of acting exactly like this is part why things have gotten so bad. Part of how this country will improve is by more people being willing to take up arms and defend and support each other as humans, against capitalism.
*EDIT: I can't even shit-talk the author of this garbage by name, because they credit it to the fucking editorial board lol
then the editorial board is totally willing to suck every possible cock.

I'm confused. Is "cleaning the camps" mayocode for "kicking out the homeless"?
otherwise isn't cleaning them a good thing?
Is “cleaning the camps” mayocode for “kicking out the homeless”?\
This. It's this.
In situations like this the language is nigh genocidal and "cleaning" typically means throwing away their stuff and giving them the boot. This type of language hints at their ideology, as they view the homeless as dirt that need to be removed. They view human beings as if they're dirt.
They often use the word sweep as well. By which they mean running people down with bulldozers literally
Are there any articles about this event from a less reactionary perspective I could read? It seems like an incredible development imo.
