it's weird how much this varies game to game, even though big ones pretty much share an audience. Like, Guild Wars 2 (and presumably other mmos, that's just my point of reference) has its problems for sure, but people on it are about as bad as people IRL, apart from in the matchmade small group competitive multiplayer bit. I think having to do Team Sports in that bizzare way, where you're just with a bunch of random people who you've never seen before & will never see again, is really bad for brains in general. i will say that of all the mmos i've ever played (a lot) FFXIV is probably the best as far as community goes. GW2 is one I don't remember having many community-based issues with, but it's been a handful of years since i've logged in
