In 5 to 15 years, Russian :gamer:s could have a portable console.

No paywall. Lots of glib jokes about the russia-ukraine war and balconies in the article though.

5 to 15 years to make a copy of a concept that Steam copied in the first place. I'm pretty sure every company that sells anything targeted at "gamers" already has a Steam Deck knock-off available.

“Consider the issue of organizing the production of stationary and portable game consoles and game consoles, as well as the creation of an operating system and a cloud system for delivering games and programs to users,” says the Putin-approved instruction.

That's the only part that matters. The rest of the article is western chauvinism and nonsense.

And it isn't easy to do these things. Just brcause western companies with infinite money and labor can churn out some new system doesn't mean it's easy.

And the 5 to 10 years estimate comes from:

Industry figures in Russia reportedly agreed that a meaningful timescale would be five to 10 years. However, given the experience deficit and time constraints, the platform might be as much as 15 years behind platforms like Steam, technologically speaking, by the time it launches.

such western chauvinism in that last sentence.

some boomer nonsense tbh, it can't be both be cost competitive or not different from other stuff. That's even ignoring no lithography issue
