I re watched SS troopers recently and it is just so blatant and in your face. Yes, we're all more media literate than we were in 1997 but goddamn, they're handing military rifles to kids and having the kids stomp the bugs.

I remember getting into an argument with someone when I was in high school about how it was supposed to be horrifying that a telepath could tell that something we were told had no intelligence and only ravening hunger 'was afraid'; and apparently according to him I was wrong and a [redacted slur] for feeling that way. Imagine my surprise when I saw that peckerwood's mugshot during the Jan 6th rioter roundup.

I stumbled upon a reddit thread a while back and people were doubling down on it not being about fascism even when people linked an interview were the director said it was.

It's not even always a reading comprehension failure, sometimes they realize the real intent and just kind of do what they want with the material regardless. Authorial intent doesn't mean dick much of the time. Hell, when John Carpenter straight up said They Live wasn't about The Jews on Twitter a few years ago, his replies immediately ended up full of people who just kind of said it was anyways

I just kind of hate-read all the time, even imagining guys to get mad at or thinking about things I saw sometimes weeks or months ago when I can’t use the internet

My day job which gives me an actual pension is just a distraction from posting (or thinking about posting)

They literally think that everything bad about capitalism is the Jewish conspiracy and capitalism would work just fine otherwise because they see what's wrong and instead of looking into it they say 'the jews' and work back from there.

yeah like, I see this attitude a lot from lefties with a flair for the arts, and I think it's incredibly useless because we're often doing the same thing with a lot of art, and it rocks. Interpretation is a tool which we can also wield.

"LOOK, IT'S AN EMOTIONAL FAT TOOTHLESS WUMINS! BE MAD NOW."

Right-wingers are such sheep, not a single independent thought. Total NPCs.

Is the game good? It just looks like another online multiplayer only FPS to me. Not my thing personally, but if it's bad I doubt it's because of "woke".

The game is fun, there's a certain level of chaotic mayhem that comes from being thrust into a situation where you're outnumbered by the dozens and your allies are just as much a threat to you as your enemies

I just don't get it, when did the SJW stereotype go from young women with dyed hair to Queen Brahne from FF9? I saw some other channel with other weird AI-generated matronly looking women as the totemic hate figure

That has alway been present on their discourse. How feminists are just fat ugly women that can’t get a man etc. Since it doesn’t reflect reality, they now can use AI to literally create the strawmans

I like it. If you have a good group to play with its a fun PvE shooter. The overall mechanics were really thought out so almost everything feels good in the game.

Accidentally team killing is also practically a core mechanic so that's a lot of fun. Its not like other games where its mostly the noob that team kills, no player no matter how skilled is free from an accidental TK. Makes a tk more funny than anything.

Friendly fire was how I learned just how flimsy the player character feels in combat. I never had to reckon with how used to Praetor Suits and SPARTAN armor I am until I got cooked in a picosecond by my homie's flame turret. Like, I had a whole "holy shit I am a redshirt" moment until the homie threw down a rez

FPS typically isn't my jam but there are some I really enjoy. I got suckered in with the "The matches are zany and everyone is having fun!" The two quick matches I did no one spoke, one person left after a minute and you run from point to point collecting objectives and ticking off boxes. I'm sure it is much more enjoyable with people you know.

Same energy as Verhoeven being bowled over with surprise that people didn't understand the subtext that people being able to be nude coeds without lasciviousness going on meant everyone was Hitler

The importance of specific ideology to fascism is rly overstated

I think his analysis of fascism specifically is a lot more incisive than Verhoeven's. I have this problem of not being able to recommend things to people properly, because it feels like just restating the points made in a text, but in a lamer voice. lukacs-stare The Destruction of Reason is also straight fire. I really don't think the psychological profiling or media analysis of fascist figures or media is helpful. It's obscuring the historical emergence and progression of fascism in its different forms.

I've read your original comment like 6 times and it sounds like you're saying the most "in your face" clue that Starship was about fascism was that they were able to take coed showers without it being a big deal? But that doesn't make sense so I'm sure that's not it. But I can't figure out how to read it any other way

It's not that they're taking coed showers without it being a big deal, it's that they were a bunch of naked young adults in their physical primes and the only thing they're horny for is war.

Helldivers is a live-service lootshooter. It's as far away from art as you can get. It being "satire" is also a completely ridiculous statement, considering by the sheer nature of it being a live-service game, it's supposed to be as addictive and "satisfying" as possible. You can't make a satire of militarism and facism if your games entire "loop" revolves around mindless wave-shooting until you unlock the next "sick-ass gun".

Genuinely has some of if not the least shitty monetization the genre has to offer. Not even 60 bucks original price, you can earn the warbond "battle pass" analogues by just running around low difficulty missions to find little piles of the paid-for currency. Sweaty whales are complaining that they run out of stuff to grind for/flex with and ceo is just like "play another game till we have more content 🤷"
