Xi: "You leaked what we discussed to the newspapers, that is unbecoming behavior. Never mind the fact that our discussion weren't in those tones to start with......If you have sincerity than we can communicate on very good terms under a premise of mutual respect. If not, then who knows what will be the result..

Trudeao (with the horrible bodylanguage btw) tries to say some bullshit about "ohhh in Canada we are freedum press and open. Lets continue to have consturctive talks but we will disagree on stuff! "

Xi: Lets create the correct conditions first...make the correct conditions.

Pretty level headed of Xi to stay calm after Trudeau interrupts his fucking translator to deliver that canned spiel on freedom and democracy. Unless Mr Blackface has some serious hidden Chinese proficiency, it's demonstrating complete disinterest in what Xi was actually telling him. No less rude than cutting him off mid sentence and certainly not diplomatic.

i see Libs in full cope explaining how this makes Trudeau look good actualy and Xi is mad that he couldnt control him . Also:

Xi wouldn't make eye contact with Trudeau. Interesting. Is that a cultural thing? Trudeau was intently listening and looking....

Xi, like most dictators, hate that Trudeau is taller than he is. If Xi was to look up to Trudeau's eyes, the image of Xi looking upwards would play badly in Chinese media. Instead, Chinese media will probably photoshop the picture of the encounter, using Xi looking downwards, they will make it look like both leaders are the same height or even show Xi being taller.

why do i even go there....

I've lived in both countries and I stand by my assessment.

Anecdotally, the Australian chuds I met were somewhat reluctant to partake in Canadian-style eliminationist sinophobia because they were too busy being sexually curious about Chinese women. :cringe: Choose your poison, I guess.

Or maybe Australian sinophobia just looks milder when compared to some of the other Australian racisms.

At least in my personal experience in Finland, I've heard very little anti-Chinese (or more broadly anti-Asian) sentiments from local chuds (chud here being in the broad sense of including your average reflexively racist :grillman: types as opposed to more ideologically committed fascists) and they seem to be considered one of the good types of immigrants

It cannot be emphasised enough how much they hate Muslims and black people though

It absolutely is at the level that the libs like to pick at, but it's pretty clear to anyone that Trudeau did not feel like he came out on top of that encounter.

Is it a cultural thing in Canada to make unceasing direct eye contact when trying to extricate yourself from a pointless conversation some dumb asshole is forcing on you?

Do Canadians think humans are bears and need to be stared down as you try to leave?

They see a POC leader and feel entitled to give a lecture because they're simply not used to treating anyone except whites as equals.

On the other hand, Xi is just thinking "why meet the dog when I've already met his owner?"

i think some user on /r/C*nada said something pretty interesting.

Biden overplayed the Anti-China rhetoric in order to get vote for the midterms (you can clearly see that it's just smokescreen for the election since now Biden is all about '''collaboration''' with China).

On the other hand, Trudeau Overplayed the Anti-china rhetoric because he misinterpreted the rhetoric of Biden now he looks like an absolute clown.

The exact same thing happened with arresting the Huawei executive last year, like China's counter-sanctions on Canadian soy products did some tangible damage to that industry and then they just let her go when the US finally told them that they were never really planning to prosecute her.

Also of great interest is this insane linked twitter thread. It has it all: Trump - with insane comments from the same, Bolton, spying through the TSA in airports, a McKinsey executive being told they're a "lapdog of the US" for hours by Chinese officials, and remarkable incompetence by Trudeau.

      Also

Throughout the first half of 2019, Mr. Trudeau had failed to get an audience with Mr. Xi. His diplomats in China were frozen out. The Chinese reply to Mr. Trudeau was frustrating: It would breach protocol for Mr. Xi, China's head of state, to speak with Mr. Trudeau, merely the head of government of Canada, whose head of state was Queen Elizabeth II.

That part in bold almost made me laugh out loud when I got to it in the article. It's like grey-rocking a narcissist; just stick to the facts and the script and make them listen to you.

Narcissists feed on inducing a reaction. It doesn’t matter what kind, aggravate you, please you, create drama whatever, they don’t care. They are vampires that feed on attention.

They crave attention, they crave drama, they crave validation, anything that makes them feel like it’s about them somehow.

Grey rocking is when you behave just like a grey rock. You react exactly how a dull grey rock would react. You give them absolutely nothing, which means they move on to feed on someone else.

Don’t give them anything, even avoid eye contact. Minimize responses to the bare minimum. Do not let emotion show in your voice or eyes or body language. Be a grey rock.

But the Canadians were welcome to return to Beijing.

That was the only good news Mr. Barton had for the prime minister.

“OK,” Mr. Trudeau said in their phone call. “Well, that’s something.”

      stolen from reddit

0:03: Cameraman sees Xi approaching Trudeau in the distance to say something as all leaders were walking the room at the end of the conference before departing.

0:09: Realizing this could be important, cameraman makes a mad dash to get to them as fast as possible. Misses about the first 12 seconds of the conversation before he manages to get to them

Translation of the most relevant elements:

0:21: Xi to Trudeau: “Regarding everything we discussed, it was leaked to the media, that’s not appropriate (Note, in Mandarin Xi actually said “That’s not Ok” ’不行‘). And furthermore that’s not the way the conversation went. If you are sincere, we should communicate with each other in a respectful manner, otherwise it will be hard to say what the result will be like...“

0:45: Trudeau to Xi (interrupting the interpreter when the interpreter said “If there was sincerity on your part...): In Canada we believe in free and open and Frank dialogue, and which we will continue to have. And we will continue to love to work constructively together, but there will be things we will continue to disagree on, and we will have to [indiscernable].“

0:57: Xi to Trudeau: “We have to create the right conditions first, alright then?“ (好啊?)
