here's the project i used: https://github.com/neagix/wii-linux-ngx

the Wii runs a PowerPC processor. so using homebrew, priiloader, and bootmii (https://wii.guide/) you can run whatever code you want on it, including a linux PPC kernel image

because of how priiloader works, no harm was done to the original wii's operating system. i can unplug the hard drive and it will boot right back to being a normal wii

what works

USB works as expected (its currently booted off a USB-to-harddrive adapter)

the SD card reader works

video is software framebuffer, Xorg supposedly works but i havent tested

gamecube controller input works according to the project, i havent tested

wifi works

sound works

the disk drive will only read DVD+R and DVD-R disks. nothing else. no CDs and no RWs

bluetooth works, including bluetooth support for the wii controllers, no sensor bar however.

gamecube memorycards are NOT supported

there is NO hardware video acceleration so graphical tasks will be hindered greatly

its pretty much just a 729Mhz PPC based computer with 73 megabytes of ram, 2 usb ports and minimal graphical capabilities
