The western world,
Because the western world is gonna be murdering everywhere else
bad things will get so more that people won't even think bad things happened before
U.S really is by far the best country geography wise and it's not even close. Surrounded by both oceans, both coasts extremely mountainous, immense amounts of arable land, the most oil, lots of raw materials (metals, lumber, etc.), incredible amounts of freshwater, avoids drastic climate change due to not being too north or close to the equator
What a waste
I mean the western states (ca, az, nm, nv) might legit run out of water in the next two years as a result of the megadrought brought on and intensified by climate change. ca grows 90 pct of nuts and fruits and like 60 pct of vegetables. So the US will definitely suffer.
Give it time, weather doesn’t discriminate by nationality. Americans are hit hard too. The difference is those killed are primarily the homeless, the transient, the outcasts, and so their deaths aren’t counted, remaining almost as easily ignored as those in the global south
It is unfortunate that the bourgeoisie won’t naturally face these consequences though, we have to get that ball rolling ourselves.
yep yep yep. idiot CA needs to massively invest in desalination like 20 years ago. It's not going to happen until it's too late.
The US will probably be one of the countries that does the best under climate collapse. At least it’s positioned to do so, we’ll probably fuck it up and geoengineer another dust bowl
Salt Lake City is a few years away from being Salt Flat City because they want lawns as a status symbol
:lathe-of-heaven: I feel like this is cheating tho because it’s kind of already happening
There's a reason billionaires are buying property in New Zealand...
Make sure it's big enough for all of us https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LSIsy6YEXQ
New Zealand is a good hedge if there is a northern hemisphere nuclear war. Otherwise you're probably better off with whatever fort/bunker a billionaire can build where ever they are in the west.
I think New Zealand puts you close enough to China that you're at risk of Xi showing up and freeing your slaves.
also, how hard will the UK be hit?
Gwynne Dyer has a talk on geopolitics in a hotter world (it's pretty good) where he states that the UK could support themselves - just about. It'd mean a lot mor eating gruel and such, but apparently it can be done if you shoot everyone trying to come in.
Talk's about 10 years old at this point. I'd be fairly certain it's correct on the climate model and such, not so sure if he predicted what a fucking clown country the UK has become since then
Maybe Iceland, but only if Juche is successfully implemented (and the Gulf stream doesn't disappear)
jokes aside there is talk in the media of food security and self-sufficiency. Our farms are heavily mechanized so we'd always need fossil fuel if not for farming then for fishing ships.
I have not seen mention of the Guiding Light of Juche and I don't think I will sadly.
:capybara-theorist: thank you
although a little self-determination would indeed be helpful, problem is we are firmly in the US sphere of influence since WW2. Before that the Danes handled our foreign affairs.
South america seems good on paper for a survivalist agricultural commune, at least here near the rivers, but if you plan living in a city uuuuhhh, infrastructure ain't good
They’re working on the whole freedom thing, in a decade or two they’ll have it in the bag
im thinking of Ireland myself cuz i dont want to learn a fourth language
maybe ill just end up going to mountainous city in my own country, emigration is expensive as fuck if u dont live in the global north
Ireland is incredibly climate resistant. Grows enough food for 25 million people with a population of only 7, tons of arable land, massive sources of wind power and peat for electricity and heating, good freshwater rivers, and (at least in the south) a stable society that isn't on the verge of murdering each other.
stay where you are and better it as best you can.
unless you're on the equator in which case gtfo ig
how hard will the UK be hit
Might get A LOT colder https://www.nationalworld.com/news/environment/gulf-stream-collapse-uk-effects-of-climate-change-if-ocean-current-stops-and-when-it-might-happen-3337728
