I've had stints in the hospital where my internal organs were trying to kill me, and I was denied any pain relief FOR DAYS because I was, "just another drunk." My only savior was a nurse running a 72 hour triple shift—who wasn't even supposed to be there, but bUdGeT cUtS—saw me and immediately gave me diazepam and dilaudid. He wasn't allowed to do that. It was against the law. He saved my life. I wouldn't have been seen by a doctor for another day or two.
