I can't imagine the US ever allowing peaceful reunification. They would likely bomb the entire island to rubble if it was actually going to happen.
That would be an attack on China though given that US acknowledges Taiwan being China at least on paper. Doesn't mean US wouldn't do it, but it's going to be really hard for US to pretend they're anything but an aggressor in that scenario.
Oh, I was thinking more like they would blow up factories and fund "moderate rebels" the same way they do whenever they're chased out of somewhere. Bad choice of words on my part, they probably wouldn't actively "bomb" the place, but set up explosives in all the industry they can reach.
That's definitely something I can see US trying. How much they managed to brainwash people in Taiwan is the big question there. I'd also argue that at this point destroying the fabs in Taiwan would likely hurt US more than China. I full expect that China will have bleeding edge fabs on the mainland within a few years, meanwhile US reshoring effort hasn't produced any actual results so far.
