The two on the picture are feral pigeons which like to visit me. Talking about my two girls, only one of them can fly freely outside if she wants, but its rare that she wants it. Usually only if she see that other pigeons are eating something. To let her fly freely I always look out that there isnt any bird of prey flying around. And she es is also a former racing pigeon, so she knowns what is going outside.

The other one is her daughter and was raised by me. I tried to show her the outside world but she refused every time and now its to late. While her mother is even capable to dominate a crow (racing pigeons have a strong body), her daughter is even scared if she spots a sparrow flying.

That's why I'm asking, that's what I'd be worried about. I guess they fly around your home/balcony?

With they you mean birds of prey? If so, they sometimes fly around this area. Good thing is that crows often form a group an start attacking those hawks.

If you mean with they my pigeon, then yes, she usually flies around my home for a while if she is outside. If it is egg laying time, then she me stay longer outside. Otherwise she gets annoyed by all those horny boys and is maybe 15 minutes outside.

Since male pigeons finds her very attractive, I have sometimes a gathering here on my balcony. They know she lives here and are waiting for her. But interaction with other pigeons is dangerous, they may have diseases. Actually there is a warning regarding bird flue in my area, so she cant fly around freely in the moment.

You see, I am very talkative regarding pigeons. I can probably tell more stories about habits and funny things about my two pigeons then anything elese. And I have definitley more pictures from them then from me or my wife.

Yeah, I meant your pigeons. I assume they need to fly to exercise their wings.

It's cool, I'm a fan of pigeons. Humans did them dirty, so I have a soft spot in my heart for them.

They indeed need room to exercise. They dont live in a cage but in my flat. Everyday for few hours they may fly around like crazy and love to aim my head and land there. But most of the time they are cuddling, sleeping, sunbathing and and and. Feral pigeons are so active because they are hungry and use their enegry to find something to eat. But if you give them a shelter, food and water they start enjoying live. One time I had a couple in my livingroom for two days (they decided to stay there) and they were just relaxing, after they were not hungry anymore.

That is so great to hear! Many people still think that they are dirty or dangerous for health. But there is no difference if you compare it with an owl, a sparrow and any other bird. And they were sooo important for humane by providing fertilizer, food and messaging.
