Spoilers below

First published 1992, and I read it the first time around 2015 or so. The whole section about the epidemic in the present day of the novel is quite an experience, from Americans refusing to quarantine because liberty to medical professionals running out of PPE. I remember how it ends, so I've been thinking about rereading it since 2020 but I haven't been sure if that's a good idea. Finally went ahead and did it. I'm about 60% through, and doom is building. Maybe it was too soon after all.

Very good book; I've been reluctant to re-read it as well due to the bittersweet ending.

Same universe, partially same characters, and very good as well (though far less serious): I recommend To Say Nothing of The Dog by the same author.

I actually just reread Three Men in a Boat and To Say Nothing of the Dog, which is what gave me the courage to reread The Doomsday Book. Which was maybe a mistake! But I enjoy Willis' work so much and I felt like rereading all her time travel books. I'm going to be crying buckets at the end of this one though.

I finished it, and as predicted, cried buckets. Such a good book though, and maybe cathartic?
