This person suggests moving away from :reddit-logo: and recommends "soft-forking" Lemmy because of the developers' stances on muh human rights:
There's threads denyng the oppression of Uyghur muslims (this oppression has been well documented by NGOs, for example: https://www.amnesty.org/en/documents/asa17/4137/2021/ug/).
Other posts deny that North Korea is oppressive.
Meanwhile, another suggests celebrating Stalin's birthday as he was such a great guy.
(Incidentally, I have receipts, DM me if you want to see them for yourself.)
God, I hate tech communities so fucking much
This guy is so close to getting it but just falls short. He gets that Reddit and corporate-controlled social media presents problems, but misses the understanding of how American hegemony made it all seem just fine and palatable to him not too long ago. Therefore, he cannot extrapolate how American hegemony influences his ideology on other matters.
Reminds me of that kind of anti-consumerism where people know something is wrong, but have no ideological or historical understanding of how we got there, and therefore cannot identify the root causes of their anger.
