We are supposed to give an extra one month rent here when signing a contract as thankyou money to the landlord for letting you stay there.
At least you can usually argue out of it as it isn't a legal requirement, just custom. I don't think I have ever actually paid it, but it is still a hassle.
Yup! Good old key money.
You can usually get out of it, but the fact that it's kind of accepted without second thought is really annoying.
I think my favourite part of my job is never needing to deal with bullshit airbnb and/or hostel fees. Still got them in everything else, but at least not for hotels.
I have seen so much snuck in on those under the "cleaning fee" pretense.
