The translated title may be a little bit misleading for non german speakers. I don't know if this article is available in english.
I love reading NZZ. Its the voice of the finance capital. And they are direct. This entire article is a imperative towards the militarisation of Germany. Whining, that Germany don't have nuclear weapons and is dependend on the the USA regarding defence.
This article should be read in the context of this article from Tagesspiegel. The goal is to make Germany ready for war. NZZ is only advocating to strengthen German imperialism, so it can withstand US Imperialism and to be ready to wage a war against Russia.
NZZ is reactionary nuclear waste. It represents the Swiss allegiance to capital above all else. "Neutrality" my ass.
I normally wouldn't have read the article but the sub-headline caught my eye and I had to find out what the author meant.
Culturally and politically, the two parts of the country go different ways. The war is deepening the rift, as East Germans and West Germans have completely different views of Russia and NATO. Moscow is exploiting the division with its propaganda - with the help of the AfD and Sahra Wagenknecht. The two parties form Putin's fifth column.
In other words, "everything I don't like is Putin's propaganda, wahhh." Not that I like either of those two parties either, but the infantilization of mainstream political discourse is really frustrating.
and what's even sadder is that this is some of the more rational analysis you'll get in western mainstream
