Popped a seroma on a decade old leg wound about a week ago.

It predictably got infected and is leaking odorless pus throughout the day.

Aside from continuing to hydrate and take vitamins, what steps should I take to keep it from getting to the point where I need an (expensive) doctor visit?

I would suggest keeping it clean, of course. Cover with a clean dressing (gauze and medical tape) and change to a clean one regularly. Definitely keep it dry. I was told “a wet bandage leads to infection” by many medical professionals.

Also, I’ve had cysts and the like before, and I’ve used generic Hibiclens (chlorhexidine gluconate) to clean them. It’s worked well for me, preventing some very uncomfortable surgeries after having to get a few surgically removed. In my experience, cleaning with it in the shower reduces them to the point where they disappear ok their own works well. It dries my skin out and isn’t good to use long term, so be aware.
