This isn't a problem with the interconnects, it's with the EU energy market in which the highest priced supplier sets the price.
Norway would also be completely screwed without these interconnects, because not only do they sometimes need to import power from the south, but they also need their unused hydroelectric power to go somewhere. Unless they can somehow bake up (spitballing here) dozens of gigawatt hours of storage, they're going to have a bad time.
In any event, I'm looking forward to the coming years of energy nationalism, especially in Europe where infrastructure is so intricately interconnected between countries.
