listen; now is the time to get the fun in. after a few weeks the creeping dread starts to compete for your time, but right now you could put a good thirty to forty hours of gaming time in and not even feel stressed about it

That sucks. It's always better to be the one taking the initiative.

Did you have any, uh, "leverage" left over at the company? Or is their main rude awakening just going to be loss of convenience and performance?

Oh yeah I think that was your post that you were predicting getting laid off. Congratulations, I think. Spend your new free time well, enjoy.

The only thing that sucks rn is my partner is spiraling from stress, they were on my health insurance. I'm squeezing in one last therapist visit today, and my partner is scrambling to get shit refilled.

Yoooo that shit catalyzed quick in the past 24 hours! You probably are aware but if you need therapy and you're near a university with a psych program, they likely have a program that serves people in the community, and it's usually sliding scale. There may also be other sliding scale options around as well.

Also in my state, the insurance companies that run medicaid typically have programs that will help to pay for things that are health related so long as a doctor provides a referral. If yall need assistance paying for meds, that might be something to look into.

Sorry I can't help offer a ton of advice on this stuff, it's my job lol

Thanks! This ain't my first rodeo. Between my 401k and severance, ill be fine for a few months. My band has a TON of touring in October coming up anyways. Appreciate the tips!

Mmmmm, severance pay....you set then. Also it sounds like the perfect time to be laid off if you're touring, that's dope! What kinda music do you play?

COBRA is usually way too pricey for the average person

It literally exists so that they can say "We still provide healthcare access!"

              Weaselly shit

Yeah it's fucked. Even with multiple Rx's and two medical professionals I visit at least monthly, it was cheaper for me to just self pay until new insurance kicked in.

Seems like it's only helpful if you're incredibly unlucky and get sick / injured

I once celebrated quitting by getting so wasted I fell down walking downhill and broke a wrist. Still cheaper out-of-pocket than COBRA.

I'll be fucked on money for a bit but I'm gonna see if my local bar can have me for a few shifts or something while I go through the interview process.

Tbh, employment that you're in full control of is better.

A zero-hour contract sounds bad, but I have a part-time job with 0 scheduled hours, amd coworkers that often want to trade in shifts, and those are frequent enough that I can have my choice of shifts, and still cover my expenses with a rather low frequency.

The work itself is not particularly enjoyable, but the aspect of it being fully under my control makes it my best job ever on that metric.

Once the contract is signed I'll open up the .iso, I have it ready to go. The only thing is, I want to review it to see if theres any clauses that WOULD fuck me if I did that.

I actually looked and surprisingly my company isn't hiring AT ALL right now which is wild because we WERE (I train all new employees for a small thing and I've been doing that training once every other week for months now). I think we might be entering some end of the year hiring freeze? But if something pops up I'll reach out to folks here. Sorry!

No worries. I get fired a lot so casually asking if people are hiring is just part of my routine at this point in my life.

You can join me in the job search comrade yes-honey-left

But seriously my current job pays so badly for an office job, and they started limiting our hours so it's basically become a part time job.

Hope you can find something better soon

    LESGOOOOO

Going on 2 months from shitass retail work after zoning out a few days in a row, out of pure spiteful contempt for an annoying manager.

Never making that mistake again, but i stand by this one. Fuck Loblaws, fuck "Superstores" and fuck retail managers who pretend youre "getting them in trouble" by breaking rules. I wish it was that simple.
