Never encountered this dude before, but as a huuuuuge Paper Mario: TTYD stan, it piqued my interest. I think his theory makes a whole lot of sense, and also explains things like why we haven't seen a new metroid in ages (it also makes me wonder if they postponed prime 4 and brought back the old developer because they realized they couldn't make a metroid by removing the metroidvania).
I stopped with Pokemon at gen2 except for playing HG/SS (which were amazing). There's just too many of them. Nintendo post-Gamecube feels this weird need to change things constantly even if it's fixing what's not broken. It's like their excuse for not making a new F-Zero cause they can't think of some stupid gimmick to add or even making the old ones accessible if that really is the case. It's not like every Mario Kart isn't basically the same game, they just don't want to admit that it's about money and branding. Captain Falcon is the bick dick falcon punch guy from Smash now, you couldn't have him in a game where you can't actually even see him while playing.
Nintendo is a really really fucking weird business that acts against its own interest constantly. They're basically small business tyrants with a huge business, Iwata was the first person outside of the founding family to be president of the company since they'd formed in the 1800s as a playing card company. It's the newest incarnation of your ROBs, your Virtual Boys, Two Screens, Touch Screens, Motion Control, whatever the Wiiu is. The Switch being good may have actually come from the WiiU sucking in sales and needing to make a new console quick, they didn't have time time to come up with a stupid gimmick.
