I've noticed myself getting way more anxious and easily stressed out ever since getting sick with a flu about a year ago. I got sick before there was any widespread awareness of covid so I was never tested for it, however in retrospect I believe it was likely the coronavirus since so many of the symptoms matched. I remember feeling particularly zonked out when I was sick, and in the morning when I first woke up with symptoms I was confused to the point of being basically delirious despite none of the other symptoms being particularly severe.
In the months after that I started having panic attacks for the first time in my life, which have thankfully subsided since around April. However my generalized anxiety since then has continued to be much worse than before. Also several members of my family have gotten it since then and have developed new anxiety afterwards, which makes me wonder if there's some genetic aspect to it which causes certain people to develop new mood issues after getting covid.
It looks like the research is starting to reflect this: https://www.healthline.com/health-news/people-with-covid-19-more-likely-to-develop-depression-anxiety-and-dementia
