Anyone else reminded when they see stories like this how much they fucking hate the British for what they did to the subcontinent and never paid reparations for?

Pretty sure we have built the dam this time. Our government bureaucrats are mostly nazi idiots with little regard to environment and sustainable development.

That's likely the case. I don't mean to deny agency to India. It just infuriates me that Britain destroyed India's industries and stole (and steals) so much of it's wealth. India's had independence for a while, of course, but I can't help thinking how much better prepared it would be for disasters like this if it had been able to develop without being ransacked. It's a trite point, really; I just don't need much encouragement to remember that I detest colonisers.

British stole trillions and partitioned our country but it was us, majority hindus (I am a hindu) who created this large mess that we are in. Our large section of people went for neoliberal opportunistic politics and pro western outlook and now it's all about hindutva fascism everyday. Killings of ordinary Muslims is an "art" for hindus here. Many didn't know but british helped to modernize Indian hindu sect. We were wretched people, burnt young women alive with their dead husband on pyre, killed dalits and lower caste people, treated them as lesser than slaves and did other heinous acts. It was some british viceroy who passed the anti sati law and widow remarriage act. Sorry to say, british took many things but we hindus were beyond savages and now the whole facade of bourgeois democracy is falling down in front of our face.

Comrade from the US here. Not familiar with Sikkim and was curious what everyone's stance is about it. I got a garland of country flags for my geography class and had to look up the Sikkim flag, which is right next to a flag of Kosovo, and it really has me furrowing my brow.
