French model, we get like $7k a month and can also set one cop on fire
Wow. Dave Ramsey's whole thing, the reason he's famous, is for advising people how consolidate and pay down their debt by snowballing it... Like he used to do seminars called Financial Peace University lol
wtf??
I am starting to suspect that he was up to no good. Maybe his greater overall project was normalizing an austerity mindset? Now I need to know who his right wing donors are to back this up
Maybe his greater overall project was normalizing an austerity mindset
Not quite, I've heard him in the background a lot and if you ignore some of the dumber personal responsibility bullshit, he is talking about tracking your income and outcome, consolidate debt, and pay it off. He doesn't argue against spending, he argues against using credit when spending. And it really is the most important lesson (personal-spending wise) you can learn as a socialist or capitalist. Credit is systemic robbery from the poor to the rich. A communist would argue the solution is to abolish debt, credit, value and commodity. He is just saying don't do it, ever.
I don't believe in a stimulus check because if 600 dollars or 1400 changes your life, you were pretty much screwed already. You had other issues going on. You have a career, debt, relationship, or mental health problem... source: https://youtu.be/mRa3val52t4
He thinks that throwing a life preserver (600, 1400, or 2,000$ checks) is a waste of effort. But in the quote he is identifying everything wrong with american life. People have a career problem when their job pays like shit, or they can only score gig economy jobs. Debt is a real problem in this country that's why we should have a jubilee and we ought to be looking at forgiving medical and student debt. Women systematically make less than men, and having to quit your job to take care of your children, puts you at a disadvantage when saving for retirement, or when you get back out into the workforce. Don't even get me started on the abject struggle of those with mental health issues.
We NEED stimulus checks, but a single one is not gonna cut it. That's why the argument has to be retroactive payments all the way back to March of 2020. That's why an argument for UBI from the left, needs to part of our message. As well as abolishing capitalism.
I really don't think these people plan that much. He is just another useful idiot that wanted fame and kinda failed.
Finally, some goddamn class honesty, I respect an enemy who looks me in the eye and tells me to go fuck myself
I hate it when they are so fucking close and they still don't get it. It's really frustrating to hear someone with an audience of millions recreate such a cynical mindset in their listeners.
Wouldn’t paying down $1400 in debt accomplish exactly what this wealth gospel doofus claims is the sure path to prosperity?
No, you see, you have to suffer for it or it doesn't count.
:capitalist:
If the government helps people with debt, this grifting parasite is out of a job.
Is this that same dude that all the weird Christian bros have built a cult around because he's amassed a fortune telling people to pay off their debts?
Christian
amassed a fortune telling people to pay off their debts
I haven't been a Christian for a long time but these motherfuckers still piss me off.
If you hadn't been already, seeing Trump's weird witch minion summon angels of victory from Africa by beatboxing random nonsense should've convinced you that American Christians worship the Ruinous Powers
This was right before the election in some Evangelical campaign event
Are you sure that wasn't just him "speaking in tongues" at a Pentecostal church?
The most odious part of this is the encouragement of self-blame, which I think is also intentional on his part as a self-help fuckwad.
For some reason the 2016-2018 paycheck-to-paycheck articles about 40% of Americans not being able to afford a $400 dollar expense are now written in terms of $1000 expenses. A literal majority of the population of the US cannot afford a $1000 emergency expense without going into (more) debt.
I would guess that ~50% cannot afford an emergency expense of half that amount.
The guy’s business is to go on tv and convince people to hate themselves for a condition shared by a majority of the population that is foisted on us by the most powerful people in the world. I can’t imagine a revolutionary tribunal for this guy would take more than 5 minutes from opening argument to the wall.
"What, having trouble breathing? sounds like you've got weak neck muscles. If you've got neck muscles that are too weak to ward off 300 lbs of crush grip, you were pretty much screwed already. You've got other problems going on."
"Y'all should've been doing neck Kegels from birth like me, I'm just always on that neckmeat grind"
Featuring such hits as "Throttled by Your Love" and "Take my Breath Away (By Force)"
Correct, let's get to work on those Other Issues :gui-better: :porky-scared:
In all fairness, he's not wrong.
To a lot of people, getting the one-time check of $1,400 or less could help pay a couple rent or mortgage payments, buy some gas or buy some food, but they are kicking the proverbial can down the road.
Of course, I imagine that me and him come to different conclusions at this point.
Yeah but to make this argument in favor of no checks instead of bigger checks is straight up evil.
he just doesn't have the political imagination (with good reason) to think a monthly check cut out to every american is possible. Let's be real, democrats are not gonna do that.
In high school, I had a class called 'dollars and sense', which was literally just Dave Ramsey seminars. If I recall, the whole class was just track income and debt, budget, and never get a credit card. Also, only invest in mutual funds. One bit of advice of his I always really like: never lend money to family or friends. This will create a creditor-debtor relationship that will hurt family. If they are really your family or friends, then just give them some money.
This clip seems awful. Perhaps it is lacking context? Or maybe he is just a piece of shit.
they play this guy on the radio and it is just basic financial advice. "Pay debt because interest" level stuff. He doesn't seem completely awful but he's at least a bOoTsTraPs guy. Doesn't ever consider that people can be suck in debt situations that are mathematically impossible to get out of because of low wages (ie wage slavery).
I remember a high school class back in 2015 where we watched Ramsey clips and he said that if you go to the store, you should try to negotiate down the price by showing the cashier and/or seller that you have cash on you.
That sounds like something I would do. Ask to speak with the manager “but I’m willing to pay with cash”
If I recall correctly, he was basically saying that, when at someplace like Best Buy, and you are buying a device, you should emphasize to the representative that you have cash. This way, they know that you can pay most of the price there. As a result, you could negotiate a lower price, since they would be getting money right then and there.
I'm just picturing some person who makes most of their money off of commission having to deal with somebody who is only willing to pay just over half the price of an object, while acting like it is a tremendous amount, since it is in cash.
Pretty sure it's the latter. I doubt, for one example of many of his problems, he genuinely doesn't understand that people could not have parents to mooch off of and avoid having to take on debt to survive.
Seems he just likes giving his predominantly white Calvinist audience a reason to believe they're morally superior following his financial advice because it fits right with their belief they're God's chosen. His one-size-fits-all edicts are either laughably naive or (I'm betting on this one) pretty contemptuous of anyone in poverty.
Whether it's a grift or his true beliefs, I lean heavily toward "piece of shit".
