Afaik when athletes from socialist countries went to the competitions in the west, they were approached by the intelligence agencies and coaxed to defect or make antisocialists public gestures, especially successfully and popular athletes.
doesn't the fighting game community have a relatively high number of POCs (compared to other genres at least)? I wouldn't be surprised if that meant there were a higher percentage of comrades too
