It starts talking about Hollow Knight specifically, but it's a good video documenting how trash Jimmy Wales's Fandom has become.

[20:30] You can’t make a video hosting site better than YouTube. You can’t make a social media site as connected and influential as Facebook. You can't make another Twitter. And even if you could, you shouldn't.

So just let big tech dominate our very lives? I didn't think so, asshole.

I think it's good to remind ourselves that boycotts are the liberal "discipline" to revolution. As if we had any power individually.

I propose we stop spending any time obsessing about which products we should use, since we all still need to have lives in our respective societies and hobbies. We can blend in, it should be widely accepted! Sometimes that includes having fun with pirated content, reading Wikipedia or even stupid Twitter Facebook Instagram tiktok shit.

Now. Each of us must volunteer a bit of organising work, collective work, common work. That's how we are supposed to, and how objectively we can make a change. It's not by repressing yet one more behaviour that could bring a few moments of peace of mind, and relaxation.

It's okay to be aware of the issues, though. But it should be okay to lower the guard consciously, from time to time.

Happy to hear any flaws in my logic, from comrades. :)

I think it can be read as a PSA rather than a boycott call to action. Fandom is so horribly thrash that people are doing a disservice to themselves by using it, specially since now most big wikis there are going to just be vandalised graveyards since the original teams left for bigger projects.

If you're searching for something related to a game, fandom is usually the first thing that pops up due to SEO, but you're not losing on some cheaper or higher quality product like you would if you chose to instead use some alternative. The title is a bit of clickbait (and the author is probably a lib) but the message isn't really the usual "this company has an unethical supply chain" and more like "this company produces useless trash."

I hate this trend of fearmongering posts or videos on why you should or shouldn't do, "don't use this phone", "don't use this piece of software"
