This is another source of my frustration with some people here targeting the news mega. The real powder keg is the new Bluesky users. In the end, they came from a social media website where the average user is practically salivating at all the Palestinians Trump is going to deport to Gaza because the Palestinians rightfully refuse to vote for someone with Palestinian blood on their hands. Remember, the straw that broke their backs wasn't any of the heinous shit those ex blue checks said about Palestinians and other POC who refuse to vote for Harris even though election after election have shown time and time again that the number one correlation of GOP voters is whether or not they're white. Don't be surprised if one of them gets caught up in a struggle session that causes Hexbear to hemorrhage even more POC users.

With regards to Hexbear not being a welcoming space for POC people, the primary contradiction is the fact that Hexbear is 85%+ white. I wouldn't consider a space to be 85% white to be safe for POC at all no matter the professed political beliefs of those white people. Just imagine getting invited to a wedding where the attendants are 85% white. The only exception is if those particular white people have been ruthlessly vetted by POC who I personally know and trust, which is impossible to do in an anonymous forum. I have said this before, but the fact that Hexbear isn't something like 60% POC is a fucking disgrace.

At the end of the day, the news mega is just a thread, and nobody quits a website over a single thread. What most likely happened is that those POC immediately knew something was up with general Hexbear, huddled into the two places on Hexbear that isn't 85% white (here and the news mega), and got burned out by the news mega for various reasons.

There has been talk among some news mega regulars that the news mega should move to a different site. If you think the new mega is such a problem, then you should be happy. The news mega can fuck off to a different website, and nobody here has to put up with their bullshit anymore. But I suspect that it would be a monkey's paw situation. Just look at all the new people coming in from Bluesky. They're basically all white, and none of them have been vetted to be safe around POC. Not sure how it would benefit POC if Hexbear goes from 85% white to 90% white.

Maybe this context helps you put together why I don't think the "stupid white commies of the news mega" should bow before the HTS apologists, and what I was talking about when I was speaking of "reactionary and imperialist narratives" pushed by compradors.

And let's be honest. Outside of the em_poc mega, the news mega has the highest concentration of POC users. It's extraordinary silly for the place with the highest percentage of POC users to go after the place with the second highest percentage of POC users. And not every POC newshead has ever participated in the em_poc mega. Honestly, most of them haven't. If anything, there should be an alliance of sorts between the two megas. If the news mega somehow disappears or moves to a different instance, Hexbear will be even whiter with shittier politics to boot than it is right now.

Accountability is literally impossible if people keep on having alts or finding ways to anonymize their actions. "Opsec" can as much be an excuse to escape accountability. This applies to both the admins/mods and users.

The way out is do what the vast majority of forums did in the past, which is to reward old users and penalize new users. However, I suspect this will never be used because it quickly leads to the formation of power users^TM, goes against the spirit of Hexbear being "egalitarian."

Part of basic threshold of maturity is being fair towards people you personally don't like lol). And to top it off, people were strangely dogpiling him for some bizarre reason in that thread. So not only did the aggrieved party not get anything close to some form of restoration, but he got even more shit for daring to not wanting to see comments about his family's throats being slit while they're asleep. The admins turned their backs at him, and even some of the users turned their backs at him. At a certain point, it's time to call it quits.
