  • It depends what you’re in to. If you liked the dog man book series the movie is pretty delightful, if you like action movies maybe love hurts, tech dystopian slashers with soy dialogue go with companion, cheesy mindless slasher maybe heart eyes, but i wouldn’t get expectations high or anything. I hear that Monkey is pretty ok, lighthearted horror comedy based on a stephen king short story by the director of longlegs. The brutalist is enjoyable for what it is, a middling and hollow affair with moments in visuals and performances which are good. Nosferatu is fine, great in some parts meh in others. All that is offered is paint by numbers for consumption these days, and i watch new movies knowing that most will not be “good movies” given the state of hollywood political economy and an overrepresentation of film school types and industry nepos who really have no valuable life experience to draw from and plenty of rotten ideology, and who are typically obsessed with the technical details of “how a movie is supposed to be made” and not driven by any sort of artistic vision. Everything is either non-stop epic (which means nothing is epic) or spineless for the most part.

  • I would say if it doesn't pop then it's past usability. Honestly, there are use and use/freeze by dates for highly perishable items that should typically be adhered to (especially if derived from animals like milk, meat, and to an extent eggs). Then there are "best by" dates and "best if used by" dates which refer to "freshness" and these are at best estimations of when quality in terms of texture and taste MIGHT begin to diminish but are more often a way for manufacturers to cycle new product to the shelf.

  • It's great that you are developing techniques to make it through acute episodes of craving, as that is where a lot of the struggle exists. fwiw the last time I kicked nicotine the dreams didn't last much longer than a couple of weeks with frequency and intensity declining in time.

The medicaid thing had me worried, too. They shut down the medicaid portal in the state where I live and it appeared to be a really bad situation. The next day the move was declared illegal and the portal re-opened. I was thinking about the need to moderate my reactions to events, not in a denialist way, but in a way that allows me to not be a cortisol doll for bourgeois actors. I don't have any advice to soften the psycho/emotional impacts but recognizing them when they happen seems a good first step. Best wishes with your continued journey

  • Plex. If they set up a free Plex account and you setup a plex server, you can share whatevr pirated goodies you have with them. This requires an old laptop or pc (ideally dedicated to mostly just this purpose) being on all the time on your end. Anytime they visit plex they can tab over to your or whomever’s server and browse movies in a netflix type interface. A Plex server is pretty damn easy to setup, basically just download, install, and point plex to whatever folder has shows or movies. Also, Tubi, Pluto, and Plex have a surprisingly good amount of content that doesn’t require any piracy.

*if you wanna get fancy you can add a couple of apps that automate dling and adding stuff to your plex library, like sonarr for shows and radarr for movies, and then use overseerr so that your friend can request to add or automatically add things to your server without having to do any pirating themselves.

  • Euclidian proof of infinite prime numbers is dope. If we assume there is an absolute largest prime number P, and we create a composite number of every single prime number n through P, such that we have a number G which is divisible by every prime number n through P, and we add 1 to this composite G (as in G+1), we now have a new number which is not divisible by any of the primes in the composite (2, 3, 5, 7, all the way through P) and is thus a larger prime number than P.
