This article got it the wrong way with regards to leap seconds. Days getting longer means the earth takes a bit more than 86400s to spin a full day's rotation. That is a surplus, which accumulates over time, and we've added 20 something leap seconds to compensate for it. Days getting longer is what's been happening all this time since 1901.

What scientists have been observing in the past decade are days taking slightly less than 86400s which creates a deficit that accumulates to the negatives that had to be corrected by having a skipped second instead of a leap seconds.

If the negative leap seconds is correct then the days are getting shorter, not longer. If days are getting longer than we're having to insert positive leap seconds as per routine, not a negative one.

Got headache the whole day. Figured it was caffeine withdrawal since I forgot to brew a mug yesterday.

Today I break fast with a cup of coffee and now after 1hr the headache went away. I guess it really was caffeine withdrawal.

I also don't think I'm a heavy caffeine addict, as I usually only drink 1/2 a mug a day, but damn the withdrawal headache is still real.

Am I going insane? Every nightfall the air smells of haze and idk if it's the haze falling down to the surface because physics or there's people illegally burning waste in the vicinity at night (not farfetched since there's a couple of cases of illegally operating dump sites near this area). What's weirder is that this stopped happening the couple of days of CNY, then it resumed.

If owner or majority of staff observes CNY they're definitely closed for a few days.

Very fortunate news is that I found a tool that can read the disk contents just fine. 😌 It's probably a case of corrupted boot record which needed chkdsk be run. But I'll do it after I emergency parachuted my critical stuff.

I'll probably look around shopee for replacement now that I'm over the initial panic. New year new hard disk I guess.
