So i don't follow the ¥outube channel because it was commercial $hilling and spectacle and I like free software and i just dont think it was entertaining either, but apparently something happened involving someone leaving, workplace abuse and sexual harassment and now a quiet fan place has suddenly become hyperactive and anti-linus.

OnlyFans isn't specifically for sex workers. When the pandemic started and huge numbers of people turned to online sex work for income OF became very important for online sex workers due to it's relative accessibility and ease of use. But prior to that and to some extent now it does host non-sex workers; cooks, craftspeople, yoga and fitness instructors. Idk what the deal is with the Linus OF, but it's possible it was dedicated to something relevant to tech.

It's an interesting social and economic phenomena. Like Covid, an easy to use content distribution platform, internet pornography, and very frequently disabilities that prevent people from holding down employment in the "normal" economy came together to create a social phenomena.

CW: sex work, pornography, disability, ableism

this is kind of digression that's a personal interest of mine about the intersection of sex work, economics, and disability

            spoiler

Many people creating porn content on OF are there at least partially because it is a sustainable income stream that works with their disabilities - You can work when you're able to without needing to keep a consistent schedule, the income stream doesn't require set hours or daily labor, creating sexual content can be doable for people with disabilities that would physically prevent them from doing other kinds of work. Depending on how intense a creator is with their editing it might take a relatively small amount of time relative to the amount of income. People who are either stay at home to take care of kids or are unable to leave the home can do it.

It's of particular interest to me bc I have Bipolar disorder, and I both know and know of a number of Bipolar people who do sex work because sex work allows them to work around their disability in a way wage labor would never allow. I guess I feel knowing about people's situation and work, and advocating for what they're doing and why it is uniquely important to bipolar people, feels like a solidarity thing. There really isn't anyone trying to help us or advocating for us, so we've got to look out for each other to the extent we can.

People often have strong opinions about sex work without realizing that whatever they would like in a perfect world, in our world and our economy sex work often provides vital income for people who would otherwise be unable to work, and for whom there is often no real or meaningful societal support.
