how the game didn't immediately collapse after the squirrel is beyond me

    not even out-of-character
why would a druid work with someone who just killed their pet?
be like a ranger adventuring with someone who shot their dog/lion/velociraptor etc.

I've had chaotic stupid players do "I'm going to murder this random noncombatant for the lulz just to see what happens" things before.

There are consequences, sometimes not immediately. Sometimes it's episodes later where reputation builds up and the edgelord starts getting hated by the realm.

And the player, pretty much consistently, would be shocked about that.

Those players didn't stay long after that, and good riddance.

I have a player who caused a scene in a high class establishment full of snotty nobles then acted surprised several sessions later when he tried to go in for a drink and was informed that he is barred from the premises because his shenanigans are damaging their reputation. He then proceeded to harass and abuse the workers over it.

About as sharp and quick to understand social consequences as the average boomer, then.
