On this day in 1897, the Lattimer Massacre occurred near Hazelton, Pennsylvania when a Sheriff's posse fired into a crowd of unarmed, striking miners, killing 19. Miners, mostly Eastern European immigrants, had been protesting for better pay and union recognition.

A week prior, over 3,000 miners had gone on strike, demanding better pay and an end to the forced use of the company store. On the morning of September 10th, approximately 400 miners peacefully marched to a newly opened coal mine in Lattimer to support a new United Mine Workers (UMW) union there.

After refusing an order to disperse by a Luzerne County sheriff's posse, the posse fired into the crowd. Nineteen miners were killed and several dozen were wounded.

Despite the fact that sheriffs had been overhead joking about how many strikers they would kill that morning, as well as medical evidence that demonstrated miners were mostly shot in the back, the sheriff and seventy-three deputies were acquitted at trial, insisting that they were charged by the crowd.

The massacre was a turning point in the history of the United Mine Workers (UMW), who received more than 10,000 new members in the aftermath of the massacre.

My dog got diagnosed with Diabetes. I took her in for a rash and some urinary issues, totally came out of left field. Super thankful it was caught early and she doesn't have any other issues stemming from it.

I gotta say they gave us some trash syringes. Its so hard not to draw bubbles, it's been taking a few tries to get a good dose. Sometimes the needle even looks crooked?

There's some funky looking needles like huber needles but other than those speciality ones you should never see they should be straight up and down, some manufacturers cheaped out or something recently and I wouldnt be surprised if animal needles are kept to a much lower standard. They can come bent a little which usually isnt that big a deal, but it would make it harder to actually inject your poor pup straight down to hurt as little as possible.

Drawing bubbles is normal no matter how hard you try, especially from a multi dose vial. You just gotta tap it and get them out, suck a little more than you're giving in a dose get the bubbles out and then push in the extra back into the vial. Especially for insulin needles it's hard to not draw bubbles cause they're just so small - it's like a capillary action or some kind of physics thing, I dunno why exactly but the small ones make it hard as hell.

Thanks for the syringe info! I was worried I had a defective batch. Still getting the hang of it all.
