I’ve converted the bulk of the lawn on my lot back to prairie/woodland opening, and I feel like everyone is much more chill. I now have wasps, yellowjackets, and of course bees amicably buzzing around, in addition to the WASPs telling me how much they like it.
i planted a bunch of plants for hummingbirds and what do ya know, they showed up. I also played butterfly weed and already have 2 monarch caterpillars. plant natives, it's way more rewarding than 90% of the worthless bullshit they sell at most hardware stores(although i did get my butterfly weed at home depot but they don't have native plants most of the time). I see so many bushes and shrubs in peoples yards and theyll have nothing else. so fuckin useless.
i tried planting butterfly weed from seed, starting indoors and outdoors, this year but they didn't grow. why is growing a weed so hard
i havent really planted from seed too much, i usually get native plants from a few local places that have markets a couple times a year. did they at least sprout inside or not even that? My butterfly weed already has two monarch caterpillars on it, im so proud.
nope, they didn't even germinate! i also planted a few lambs ear seeds and they're thriving with such big leaves now. i'm either doing something very wrong or it's a bad batch of seeds lol.
you should definitely feel proud, monarchs need all the help they can get. the caterpillars always look so cute, i hope they grow happy and strong!
ill have to give the butterfly weed a try when the seed pods open up
