I'm pretty sure they're totally legal if they're over 25. A place near me in Washington State is a major importer of them. link

Cars under 25 years old are illegal to import in the US, there are exceptions for using Kei trucks on private property. I'm pretty sure they're totally legal if they're over 25. A place near me in Washington State is a major importer of them.
